Walking boot, crutches if needed
Walking boot, crutches if needed, weight bear as tolerated. (NO VFC or ortho referral needed)
Weber A fractures
These fractures are defined as distal fibular fractures below the level of the syndesmosis. These are typically stable injuries that does not require surgical fixation.
Management
is mainly supportive with analgesia, rest, elevation, ice.
A walking boot can be provided for comfort, but it is advisable to regularly remove the walking boot to allow ankle range of movement (to prevent stiffness).
If a patient really struggles with walking, they can be offered crutches as well for support.
